My early education aimed at going to Art College with a view to a career not necessarily in fine art but something more in the field of light industrial design. Along the way however I changed my mind and instead I eventually took a degree in mechanical engineering which I followed up with a career in research and development spanning 30 years, mostly in the Electricity Supply Industry. Throughout this time however I maintained a keen involvement with fine art which resulted in one-man and collaborative exhibitions and early retirement has enabled me to concentrate on this even more. I specialise in portrait and figurative work which I interpret in a more or less traditional style using water-based media, pastel and oils.
I like painting people and for any figurative artist practice in drawing directly from life is essential. Regular drawing sessions with the Saturday People are therefore very important for me and I am among the founder members of the group and its chairman.
More examples of my work and details of my working methods will eventually appear on my website, which is currently in development at: www.keithlowe.co.uk
