About Ceris Jones
Born in York, but with Welsh heritage, Ceris travelled extensively abroad with
family in the Royal Air Force. Studied: Wrexham Art College, Foundation Course
and then onto Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Polytechnic to gain a B.A. Honours in Fine
Art. The following year she achieved a P.G.C.E. Art & Design at Leeds
Polytechnic. From September '83, has taught Art & Design to G.C.S.E in
mainstream education.
In 1994, became a founder member of the International Society of Speleological
Art.
Having developed an interest in caving over more recent years, Ceris has made
the human form of the caver the main focus for many of her studies. Her
drawings depict gestures and movements and try to capture the spontaneity and
mood of the figure as he/she pursues his/her speleological activities. "For
me, life drawing with Saturday People keeps the disciplines of figure drawing
alive. It's a very different approach, working with a model in the studio, but
the pace gives you more time to look, contemplate, experiment - and it's more
comfortable than being in a cave! I get so much out of these sessions, and
everyone who attends are a great bunch - I travel all the way from Preston, by
train!"
Now teaching part-time, Ceris is devoting more time to producing her own work
and has exhibited in many parts of Britain, Europe and the United States.
